A KNX Group Address is the logical address of a function

In KNX it is important to distinguish an individual device address from a Group Address. The individual address identifies a device in the topology, while the Group Address connects communication objects that participate in the same function, for example a light, a push button and a visualization.

The 3-level and 2-level formats are two ways of displaying the same 16-bit address space. Converting between them does not change the telegram; it only changes how the address is read and organised in ETS or other software. Correct value interpretation also depends on the DPT, or data point type, of the communication object.

When the helper is useful

  • Third-party integration: convert an ETS-style address to raw decimal or HEX.
  • Telegram analysis: turn a raw address into 3-level and 2-level notation.
  • Configuration checks: compare the same address across ETS, a gateway and an HMI.

The helper does not read an ETS project and does not validate DPTs, topology or communication-object links. Those remain part of the project documentation.
